brief review friday 06

Megan and I wrote feedback as we couldn't hear anything over everyone else and the pc with the people on.  so here is my brief feedback from her. I've implemented all of it on my briefs

Brief 1: Women’s Health

I really like this idea, it seems like it’s worth doing because I know loads of people who don’t

actually know that much about women's health, having everything in one place as a helpful

resource could be really beneficial. I think the brief sheet itself is nicely written, not too much

information and it gets the idea across really easily and clearly.

Could possibly touch on the visual identity element mentioned in the deliverables? Because

the brief itself only seems to mention the creation of an app; making it fully branded and

identifiable could be really interesting as well; something about the presentation of it to make

the concept stand out, but in terms of the amount of information included I think you’ve kept

it clear and concise, no real changes needed beyond some mention of the visual identity. In

the background section you mention not being cliche, maybe some more info about this?

Brief 2: Key 4 Life

I don’t think this brief is as clear as the last one is; the information in the brief box doesn’t

seem to really mention specifically what the outcome is going to be, nor does it really explain

the aim of the project, an while these are mentioned in the background info section it could

be helpful to see it mentioned within the brief, e.g. maximises the use of words to impact

children”, how are you hoping to impact them? What are the overall goals of the campaign?

Could be reworded as “Creation of a typographic campaign aimed at 10-17 years olds with

the aim of reducing rates of youth offending”, since this is slightly clearer about the overall

aims of the brief but still stays short.

Brief 3: Same History

Really interesting concept about something that a lot of people won’t know much about, has

the potential to be really good. Since it’s a research based project the missing information

makes sense; I think that once you have done some introductory research you will be able to

determine what sort of outcome you want to make since the brief doesn’t touch on this,

though it might be worth noting down whether you want it to be digital, printed, typographic

etc.

The background section includes a LOT of information, some of it could be removed as I’m

guessing you would find a way to include this info within the actual project outcome since the

aim of the project is to educate? So probably could do with condensing it down to just

something mentioning that they are an oppressed group and that much of their background

has been wiped from history, the aim of the project is to give that history a platform so more

people can learn about it?

Brief 4: Mushrooms

I really like this idea! Some information about different image making processes you want to

look into could be good since when you mention a book based around plants and nature I

immediately think of illustrated botanical guides which might not be the sort of thing you want

to make. With regards to the brief I think there is enough information in the brief section, not

too much and makes the actual outcome really clear. As with the previous brief though I

think there might be too much info in the background section, could be reduced down to just

some small info about the area, why it’s important and why you want to make a project about

it.

Brief 5: Rignes Solo

I think this brief is absolutely fine; the brief itself is really clear and makes it obvious what

your plan is and what you want to make, and the background section gives just enough

information to make it clear why you want to do this project and why it’s interesting to you.

The only change I could think is to be a little more specific with the deliverables e.g. social

media presence (instagram), packaging, logo and logotype and any additional elements

since at the moment it’s fairly vague.

Brief 6: DEMO Festival

Since you mention in the background info that it will be a type based animation I feel like you

could do with including this in the brief e.g. “Create a type based animation that could be

shown at Studio Dumbar’s DEMO Festival” since this gives a little more information. Could

also mention what the aim of the animation will be? Since at the moment all we know is that

it is type based. Otherwise I think this is really good, the information in the background

section is all necessary to give some context to the festival, makes it clear even to someone

who has never heard of it before what the festival is about and the sort of work that is shown

there, and the deliverables are really clear as well.

Brief 7: Narnia

Another really clear brief, no real changes need to be made or anything removed because

everything seems really necessary. Maybe incorporate what you mean by visual identity in

the brief box because it seems a little vague here. However all of the info in the background

box makes it clear what the aim of the project is, why it is being done etc so this is really

good.

Brief 8: Inspirational Poster

Based on the background info it seems clear that you want to use screenprinting in some

way for your outcome so it might be worth mentioning that you want to do this within the

brief. Is there a particular thing you are trying to inspire within people? Uplifting the

community is a little vague. Why do you think this is important, can you link it to a real world

issue? How many posters are you planning on making? Is there a minimum amount you

want to submit? Is it going to be image based? Text based? A combination?
