design boards

This project all live brief from uni; it’s focused on marketing the end of the issue for LAU. Focusing on subtly referencing the year that we’ve had. The outcome reflects the uncertainty of lockdowns and restrictions, showcasing students' difficult conditions to do their practical work in. The target audience is anyone associated with Lisa at uni as the branding is to be put up in public or online and sent out email letters, so it needs to be applicable for anyone that could stumble upon it.

research

In terms of research, the key part for me was to look into what the guidelines were and look at what leads aren’t uni had done for because before and branching out and seen as a graduate shows and how they run them.

In terms of what to keep in mind, the branding needs to appeal to a wide array of people from teachers, local artist parents, grandparents, the general public, and creative industry people, so having it apply to all of them is quite important.

I found that most of the arts uni degree shows have been illustrative, saying that I have a fondness for typography, and it had been two years since the last typography-based branding for arts uni was I thought it would be a good idea to go that route.

There doesn’t seem to be that much of a key route to what has been used before in terms of the colour palette. Still, many people have used purple, which I find quite interesting. Still, also I think it would work quite nicely it’s a creative colour it references curiosity and playfulness so believe using purple would be quite beneficial to the branding as well as an orange colour as that has similar associations as well as it all Someone references the building as the new build is a lot of yellowy gold tones last old build a lot of blues and purples using the colours for the undergraduate show and foundation show.

Purple is often associated with ambition which is what a lot of our students have, and therefore referencing that would be quite beneficial in the marketing, orange is said to be an energetic colour that showcases feelings of excitement enthusiasm which would be quite applicable to the foundation show as they are yet to be crushed by uni.

Initial ideas are less based around Fully fleshed out ideas and concepts as the name of the degree show would change how it would be presented.

initial ideas

Initial ideas are less based around Fully fleshed out ideas and concepts as the name of the degree show would change how it would be presented.

The ideas are based around the names centrally as that would change how it would be visualise had a couple of ideas, but some might be too negative. I want to be picked, such as lost, and it’s all got it has done the circumstances were one of my favourite ones. Still, I changed it to circumstances as it would apply to many more people, allowing everyone to fit in with it. I also thought of doing a homestretch name or taking parts of what some people have given feedback on for student rep things referencing feeling lost or forgotten and just overall overwhelmed. Still, at the end of the day, I think circumstances are the most open concept as it’s a bit apply to anyone and everyone has had a change of circumstances it’s not too negative whilst it isn’t, and everything is a great theme because it’s not.

development

Taking the concept of circumstances, my idea was to either reference uni work in that using a grid of some sort or showcasing more of a feeling of uncertainty and weird circumstances. I tried the grid initially didn’t work out, so I moved onto the more mouldable uncertain circumstances.

I utilise my own typeface that I made over the summer but tweaked it to fit with the logotype in that the lettuce would interlock, so most of the letters are slightly different than the initial ones. After that, I tried utilising all the colours associated with You need according to my crib group. It was mainly based around colours at uni with the green doors, and the yellow new build and fabrics and stuff like that. I made a warped watercolour passing fantastic with the type didn’t look quite right I didn’t feel honest.

Rather than working with a large colour scheme and went back to one at home colour pallets, I also made some stripes and walk them in after effects as this way, the marketing campaign can have animated elements for its marketing. I took screenshots of it and applied them to posties played around with the layout to find a visual language. I sent the initial designs to a couple of people to see what floors they saw with it, and with the circumstances overlaid on the pattern, they found some of us it’s a bit difficult to read, especially in the black colour.

Seeing as the marketing is meant to be in the public eye, It is essential that it’s legible as a tweak the eye as that was the main concern as well as for deciding to go with the white text as the black had two litters of contrast for it and then moved on to type placement of the poster as this would inform what I could replace that any other point I ended up having to type in the two opposite corners top and bottom of the logo in the bottom right as to showcase that the uni logo. This also creates a sense of balance but still a lot of space. This should allow the marketing campaign to work across different platforms. Despite my writing circumstance the right the first time I wrote it, I have managed to miss spell it the whole way through, so I had to redo it all animation and all.

In terms of the foundation show added a contrast colour in the orange shades as it would both work well with the purple as well as a reference in colour theory in quite a niche way functioning as a reference for the type of work and attitude a lot of foundation students come out of it with them together they were quite well I then moved on to making my presentation for it which is quite a short one.

final outcome

This project is the presentation for the marketing team and the animation, which is on my blog linked above.

evaluation

I feel like I could’ve done more development within this project, but it was also just a short project, so I think the visual outcome is quite compelling. It references the marketing campaigns for other art exhibitions and colours have meaning and that I found whilst being different and appealing to this year group. The issue with it is that it might be too negative for the marketing team as it showcases issues within the unit whilst because of lack of support and whatnot, I feel like the colour choices were quite well-considered and work well and would also stand out from all over the post I think that it works for print and digital. The branding works with the guides from uni as it is most likely inviting for everyone they are aiming it on. The other ones to keep me sane. are usually that the winning one was better because the concept of my concert was just based around the world what I do you know can be quite flawed, but I feel like that would be good really well everyone I’ve talked to Linn about things has changed yourself is the idea of this is quite good
